'I Am Divine Foundation was created in Divine’s name to raise awareness and bring hope to those being bullied today. Divine was deeply affected by bullying. John Waters recalls Divine being frequently bullied by students and faculty during his school years. “My heart bleeds for you” one of Divine’s teachers sneered at him when he asked for help. Divine’s mother, Frances Milstead had to have a police escort to school arranged for her son, as they feared for his personal safety. Frances always fought for her son and after his death, kept his legacy alive. She became a defender and ardent supporter of gay rights. Mrs. Milstead died in 2009 and left Divine’s Estate to her long time confidant and Co-Founder of I Am Divine Foundation, Michael O’Quinn.'
