Falling Skies actor Drew Roy photographed by Aleksandar Tomovic for Bello Magazine.
From Bello Magazine.
Alabama native, Drew Roy seems to be on the right path to conquering Hollywood. Step one: move to L.A. and do a few indie projects. Step two: land a couple of choice cable roles (Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” and ABC Family’s “Greek”). Step three: work alongside some heavy-hitters in TNT’s action-packed, sci-fi hit “Falling Skies” and garner even more attention. Therefore, in order to show off the actor’s versatility, the Bello team decided to dress Roy up as a British gangster, a role that suited him well, while highlighting some fall fashion trends. Naturally, we got a few soundbites out of him too.
How did an Alabama boy like yourself make the trek all the way to Hollywood?
I met a manager in Atlanta who convinced me to give acting a try even though I had no prior acting experience. So a couple of my buddies, who were in a band [together], and I packed up and moved to LA to give it a shot. They left after two years, but by then, I had the “acting bug” and decided to stay.
Falling Skies has a pretty grim environment. What do you do off-set to lighten things up?
I don’t have much free time, but the cast is a pretty close group and we enjoy doing things together, such as going out to eat. Because we have been in different locations (first, Toronto and then Vancouver), I have enjoyed exploring the areas. I like the outdoors – hiking, biking, boating, and snow skiing .
Tell us about your first time meeting Mr. Spielberg.
We were in the middle of a scene when out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone walk up. Low and behold, it was Mr. [Steven Spielberg] behind the monitor. It caught me so off guard that I had to take a couple of seconds to gather my thoughts. I decided that he was my boss, and I had a job to do, and I went on with the scene. Afterwards, I was amazed by how interested he was in all of the actors on set.
